3 things to consider for better wellbeing

De-stress, re-group, take care of yourself

It’s true. These days we are extremely focused on productivity. Wether you realize it or not, everything is moving at a much quicker pace today than it was a decade ago. With new technology to help us keep up with things such as work, news, family and fortune it is hard to remember to slow down.

Moving this quick and at such a constant stride can take it’s toll. Take a second and consider how you feel right now. How is your neck feeling as you’re looking down reading this (mine is buggered and has been for about a week). How has your total health been lately? Have you been sick? Tired? Moody?

Let’s look at 3 ways we can take a step back and recollect. Not just for our wellness but those around us as well.

Unplug

Do it. Not right now though. Finish reading what I’m saying first. I mean after all, I’m about to tell you something important.

Unplugging or “going dark” so to speak is an extremely effective tool to take advantage of once in a while. When was the last time you ventured out of your own city and explored? Do you hike? Walk? Fish? Hunt? – If the answer is “no” then maybe it’s a good time to make them a consideration. The outdoors is extremely calming and there is something about exploring the wilderness and fishing that is extremely therapeutic.

Leave your phone at home for the day, don’t touch it for a solid 8 hours if you can. Emergencies only. Turn Netflix off. Go for a hike, take a water bottle, and go until there is no more energy to continue.

Go out with a loved one for a nice dinner. Catch up with your mother or father about your life, or a friend you have not been as close to lately because your iPhone has taken over.

Read a book

When was the last time you read? No, I know, don’t be a smart ass…you’re reading now; I get it.

Not only are books a great way to expand your mind, but they’re quite enjoyable. You can learn a lot by taking an hour or three out of your week to read. Perhaps a half before bed every night. It’s a great way to wind down before bed.

I mean, a good murder mystery novel never hurt anyone. :)

Exercise

Yea, I saved this for last. You’re welcome.

How long do you sit on a daily basis? Hours? I spend a minimum of 7–8 hours a day sitting down and usually in front of a computer screen. But I make it a priority to get to the gym a few days a week. I feel better, I feel healthier and let’s be honest.. when you pair that with a healthy diet you really can’t go wrong.

Keeping active is a huge part of success. It increases enthusiasm, makes you more confident, and encourages personal growth.

You don’t have time or money for the gym? That’s fine, there are many other ways to exercise or keep active. Do you talk on the phone often? I’ve gotten in the habit of standing and moving around while I’m on the phone, and it’s good to break up your day by standing and moving around.

Have you tried yoga? No me either but I’m sure it’s good for you too.

Conclusion

I’m sure by now you have got the point. We have collectively all become enslaved by technology and worrying about keeping up that we have almost all forgot how to take care of ourselves.

A little self love now and then can go a long way toward a healthier, less stressful life.

So go unplug, walk, stretch, read a book and eat something healthy (maybe wash it down with a beer, don’t be so serious).

It’s time to take care of yourself.
